Eighty six feet long, this stained glass mosaic mural resides on a school location of Homeboy Industries. The mosaic depicts three interlocking lines braiding together in a free flowing gesture that involves moving quotes from Homeboy founder Father Gregory Boyle.

I met with students of the high school and what emerged was the theme of braids. They named many interpretations of braids, including arms hugging, graduation hat tassels, freeways, roots and the iconic braided sweetgrass.

Homeboy Industries works to turn high school dropouts into graduates through a program based in respect, kindness, compassion and inspired care. This is my second mosaic mural for Homeboy Industries and Learning Works Charter School and I’m honored to work with such effective and meaningful organizations and their vibrant, sharp, talented and kind students and staff.
